Complexity, melodics and percussive groove are trademarks of Spanish rising star Point Sole. Following his stunning remix of Dka‘s ‘Vortex’, he makes a welcome return to the label with an original track “EYE” as part of our forthcoming SPIRALS series, and so we invited him along for an interview and a guest slot on the radio show.

Firstly how did you come up with the  name point sole and how does it relate to your music?

Point Sole was born as a project under which I wanted to express and make music under my personal vision and without trends or famous monotonous DJs, and where I embrace the musical style or aspect that I feel identified with and comfortable, at any moment of my career.
So, it was a point, a point of inflection and development of my personal view.
What is your background? How did you get into music? Were you a producer or DJ first?
Everything started inheriting a large collection of vinyl under the bar that my grandparents managed, and where they had an small disco with two turntables to play music. Since then I started to have an interest in playing music. I have been a DJ since I was 16 years old, and since I was 18 I started playing house music professionally in my town, Alicante (Spain), where I was able to enjoy great moments and where I could contribute my grain of sand to the development of the local scene, as a resident DJ of best clubs in town, parties, as well as being the protagonist of new club nights in the city.
Where do you get your inspiration from – in music and in life?
I love house music roots, and I love many musical genres. I love all Latin rhythms, music full of percussion, old school house, soulful, and of course avant-garde electronic music. If all of this we mix in a shaker, we would have the mix that inspires me when it comes to making music.
My inspiration is based on the moment in which I live, there are times when I am very happy and where my inspiration is more joyful, more house, and with abundant percussion, and other times where I feel calmer, or the simple rainy weather makes me produce dark music, but techno and electronic.

You have a really complex and unique sound. What is your production process and what are your key pieces of studio kit?
I work under the live system and perform post-productions or arrangements in Logic.
My basics in the studio are my Korg Electribe, arturia V collection, moog sub phatty, Korg Volca Keys, a range of bongos, and a great range of sample kits that I have been recording and saving throughout my career as a producer and lastly and of course my Adam AX7 monitors that I love.
You recently remixed DkA’s ‘Vortex’ on Constant Circles – how did you approach the remix and what direction did you take it?
At all times I wanted to build a full of percussion version to its original version, with a fresh groove close to the summer and without losing the club character of the original track.

Tell us your deepest darkest secret?
Hahah, I have no secrets to hide, maybe the most important question is to do what one likes.
You own the brand “Zsimpla” – can you tell us more about this?
ZSIMPLA “The Party Brand” was born as a product of contemporary leisure that was born with a purpose: to satisfy and to group to the public lover of the electronic music of quality, and of a own way of life in the city of Alicante.
An event that aims to offer the public something more than music, as it aims to generate a meeting point for an audience whose philosophy is fun and enjoyment without prejudice, with an interest in a concrete lifestyle.
It is, in short, to make an effort to bring a new vision to the concept of celebration, and that each event picks up a balanced and eclectic offer of music and trends.
You live in Barcelona – what is the best thing about the city, for someone visiting?
Barcelona is an incredible city, which offers a balance of culture, leisure and perfect weather. It is a city full of color and multicultural and of course where you can enjoy musical programming of almost perfect genres.
Barcelona has gave me lot of vision an inspiration for all my incoming music and my vision of life.
Every corner of Barcelona is worth visiting!
What do you have coming up in terms of releases and gigs, for Zsimpla & Point Sole?
We have events throughout the summer with ZSIMPLA once a month at our monthly residence in Alicante. We are also preparing our second appointment in Barcelona, where we will be able to give more details.
As Point Sole, I can tell you that soon there will be an EP in Sincopat with 3 original tracks and a remix of Martinet (Aka Huxley), after summer also I have an EP with Metro Dance Recordings with remixes by Luna City Express and of course some other original music for Constant Circles.. keep your eyes and ears open!   😉
How did you put together your guest mix for the radio show & what have you included – any exclusives or surprises?
I wanted to record a fresh and summery set, including some of the tracks that I usually play in my last sets. A set full of summer, percussion and many grooves to dance under the sun.
Within the set you can find my last remix for Dka in Constant Circles and an exclusive track (Instrumental version) of my last works and that will be out next winter.
You can hear Point Sole on the radio show across 7 stations worldwide, and then on Soundcloud and Mixcloud:
