Following releases on Kindisch and OFF Recordings, Nandu’s deep, raw twist on electronica & techno is making waves across the underground scene, with the support of industry greats from Re.You to Groove Armada. An accomplished musician, his sound is rooted in old school methods and his music is not only a commentary of love and life, but a clear demonstration of passion, inginuity and musical craftsmanship.
So ahead of his full length artist album on Constant Circles, we took a few moments to get up close and personal with the Danish producer…
Describe your music in three words.
Organic, Emotional, Groovy
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee!
What was the last album you bought?
Im actually streaming a lot, but the last album I discovered and listened to more than 1000 times is the new James Blake album. Fantastic.
If you could collaborate with any other producer, who would it be?
Erykah Badu – whoooot it would be crazy!
Would you rather be older than you are or younger than you are?
I’m so good right where I am 😀
Money or fame?
Money so you can live, fame so you can earn the money you need to live.
What is the best tune ever made?
Leonard Cohen – In my Secret Life. Listen to it, production is amazing, lyrics are so fantastic, the whole aesthetic is amazing.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
At one point I thought I would be a carpenter, at another point a mechanic – when I was 4 years I just wanted to be Robin Hood. But I always played music, and when I reached my 17th birthday I decided I wanted to live from music and quitted high school.
What inspired you to write an album?
A lot of things. The urge to create a full picture. To throw the “rules away” and just do music without any frames to fit into.
Sunrise or sunset?
Depends. If I’m going to party definitely sunset, but if I’m sober and just up early – definitely sunrise. I’ve been sailing a lot, and theres nothing more beautiful to go out on the ocean and see the sun rise.
Name one thing that not many people know about you.
I actually have a BA in Middle Eastern History and Culture – yes I went back to high school! haha.
What is the single most important quality in a musician?
The ability to express your self – not the scales or rules you’ve learned. A lot of educated musicians end their career as teachers and not musicians because in school it’s easy to get lost in already written music instead of being your self.
If your house was on fire and you could only grab three things before leaving, what would they be?
To be honest, my two cats and my wife.
If you could have any superhero power, what would it be and why?
To heal the sick I guess. Sounds a bit cheesy, but I don’t think that any ego can manage to have more power than other people – so if the only thing you can do is good, then its easier to manage.
Name the most important item in your studio.
Me! haha. I have a lot of fun toys. I love my juno, trumpet, percussions etc. But I can also just sit on my laptop in my living room and produce a track with samples recorded on my phone in the kitchen – so actually me and my computer.
Tell us your favourite joke.
I’m not really into jokes, more into funny moments, scenes from movies etc. But my favourite scene from a movie is Paul Rudd in Wanderlust. He tries to convince him self to cheat on his wife. The scene is sooooo funny, and it is improvised. He is an amazing actor.
