Argentum Dreams” is the genre bending, boundary pushing new album from Kansas based psychedelic electronic collective Monta At Odds. Available on limited edition vinyl, along with digital download and streaming, the album consists of minimal rhythms set to maximum noise, slo-mo psychedelic funk, endless dub echo, and extended-cut warped disco. Live musicians manipulating time and space via knob turning, cymbal cracking, and pedal pushing as they interlock into hypnotic moments of heavenly bliss that seem to hold forever, captivating the mind.

We have the exclusive premiere of the music video for “Chromosphere”, with some words from Monta at Odds themselves about the concept and idea behind it:

“On the new Monta At Odds album ARGENTUM DREAMS, we wanted to create a concept album without a narrative. It’s loosely about how the interactions of the cosmos mirror our interactions among people we intersect within our daily lives. Sometimes a friend appears for a moment and, like a comet passes, to only be found on that rare occasion. Other times we collide like two universes and our lives are forever changed. I found this an interesting way to communicate how I was feeling about intertwining relationships, love lost and found, the exuberance for life in the young, and the melancholy of regret as we age.
“Chromosphere” was an attempt to inject some fun into the music after listening to a lot of Avalanches releases. They make trippy headspace music with a sense of humor. I felt it was important to bring that balance to the album since we had some darker material on it. We snagged a bass line that was deleted from “Grasping Infinity” and put it on top of the wobble holding the deep low end, it gave it a lighter feel. The sub-dub-bass came out of an accident of loading a reverb on to the wrong track and it ended up with this deep dub that totally gave the song a hypnotic groove.
Barry Anderson created the video after many listens and you can see that he understood the hypnotic intention of the song. The images keep diving deeper and deeper. He found the nuances in the song and was able to masterfully add in subtle changes to the visuals that make it feel familiar but ever-evolving. Much of Barry’s work involves slow loop manipulation over time so he was able to match movement with the music and create a delightful head trip to another dimension”.
