ABELL, real name Christophe Deutsch, lives in Grenoble. An artist with a long background, and a fan of technologies, science fiction and synthesizers, he graduated in electronic and electroacoustic music and thereafter developed his craft. Through electronica, disco to techno and live dj sets playing under different pseudonyms, it is a rich and long experience that he brings to this new stage as ABELL. Already heavily supported by the Life & Death crew, he has a huge EP coming soon on Constant Circles including remixes from Rancido & Hands Free, plus he has made a guest appearance on Episode 021 of the radio show.
So we decided to dig a little deeper and find out more about this elusive artist…
So you have been making music for a while now but only recently as ABELL. Tell us a bit about your musical background and how you arrived at your current sound?
Yeah, I’ve been a producer and dj for almost 15 years now, under a lot of monikers or bands. I used to make a lot of different kinds of music, from electro to techno, disco, house, ambient idm/electronica and experimental stuff (I used to learn electroacoustic music here in school).
Tell us about your studio set up?
My studio setup is always evolving, I used to learn only with hardware stuff first, analogue or digital, and then I started to move more towards using the computer and all the amazing possibilities of today.
So today, I use both 50/50, the computer and the digital edition is really precise, and the hardware and analogue is more 
organic, human feelings with a lot of randomness…. so I use a computer with Ableton and a lot of plug ins. I use a lot the Arturia collection, and some hardware stuff , like Moog synths, MFB, an old Akai secret drum machine… and lot of guitar effects.

You have also started your own label Genius Records – what is the idea behind this and what are your plans for it?
Yes, it’s the next big thing I want to do now. I have started it with one of my friends, he is named Loran and he is a really good producer and DJ. We want to make it a big platform not only for music, but we want to make it global, not just club music, but also fashion, arts etc and we already plan to make parties (we have a big partner here in France, called La Belle Electrique, one of the best venues I have ever played).
You have played gigs all over the world – what has been your favourite place to play so far and why?
I have played all around the world and seen a lot of different places from the biggest festivals or clubs to small and warm areas… so it’s hard to say, but as I said, i think one of my best memories was to play in this venue in my hometown with Kristian (Äme), and Recondite, because it was a party with friends and with only the quality music I love..
Your EP drops on Constant Circles soon, what else do you have coming up in the near future?
There is a LOT happening. I am currently working on 2 other EPs for a BIG label but I can’t say for now it’s secret… sorry..
