Following the release of her debut full EP, ‘The Waves’, which also marks the first offering on new label Anomaly Music, Redfreya joins us to discuss its exploration of time, light and shifting emotional states. We also talk about her journey into production, the influence of her classical training and a busy summer of international shows and new music.

Welcome Redfreya and congratulations on your new release, ’The Waves’ EP. Please let us know the background to the EP and what influenced the title.

The EP contains three tracks: The Waves, Daylight Savings and Running. All the tracks are inspired and written about my relationship with time: moments of happiness that always pass quickly and feel too fleeting (The Waves), the struggle to stay in the present moment and chasing the days forward / always living in the future in your head (Daylight Savings), and sad melancholic moments that seem to last too long and can make you feel alone and like you’re just repeating the same patterns again and again (Running). It is called ‘The Waves’ because emotions, light and water all move and shift in waves. The EP is written about emotional states but the role of light is also relevant – in how it moves through our days from sunny afternoons to dusk and nightfall, how this influences our experience of time etc definitely also inspired me in the production process.

’The Waves’ is the first release on new label Anomaly Music. How did Nick & Harry from Anomaly approach you to release the debut label release

I think they found me from my track ‘Reverse The Process’ out on CHORUS records, the label of Marcus Worgull. Marcus had done an Anomaly Radio Show podcast in the early Autumn, and RTP was one of the tracks he included. So they became aware of me as a producer and then they reached out to me to discuss releasing some music which would become the debut launch of the label. I was a fan of their Radio Show series for years before this so I was aware of them and felt like our vision really lined up both aesthetically and musically.

’The Waves’ is also your first full EP release. What made you decide to turn to production after several years as a successful touring DJ?

It was a natural step, as a lot of people around me were producing so I was intrigued about it and I knew I had a musical background that would help me. I wanted to create my own sound and have more freedom to experiment and be creative.

You are a classically trained pianist and flautist, plus vocalist. How does this influence your productions and DJing?

It has a big influence. I think my background as an instrumentalist gives me an affinity for melodies and my music contains a lot of this. I am also singing a lot in many of my original productions (but more stuff I am making now has yet to come out), and I have been including piano more too, as in the long term I would love to do a live show where I can sing and play piano live.

You have hosted a weekly radio show on Bloop for several years. Who have been your favourite guests over the years?

It’s a big question as I had many amazing guests. I loved inviting Alican and Murat Uncuoglu – the founders of Istanbul based ISOLATE label – onto the show for an interview and short mix. I was very honoured when they accepted the invite as it’s one of my favourite record labels. I’ve also had some artists I really admire on the show such as: Sascha Braemer, James Harcourt, Antony Pappa, Danny Howells, TIMANTI, REj and more.

What else do you have coming up across summer 2026 and beyond?

My next steps are playing at ORIGIN Festival this weekend, and my debut in New York with Zamna Soundsystem + Gray Area at Brooklyn’s Superior Ingredients Rooftop – very excited about this one! Then in August I have a show in Mexico City and am playing a festival in Quebec, Canada alongside Joyce Muniz (M-DGTL Festival). Alongside this, my next two releases are scheduled to come out at the end of August and mid-September, so there is more original music in the pipeline. We are also working closely on the first music release on our label, INLIMBO AUDIO (which I co-run with Motip White). We plan to host some label events in Cologne and London later in summer and early Autumn and intend to release our own music as the debut label EP around this time too.
