Making waves with his unique and eclectic productions, Martin HERRS has already secured releases on Click Records, Rancido’s OMENI label and Uner’s Solar Distance as well as heading up his own imprint Annuna Music. Ahead of his debut on our forthcoming SPIRALS release, we invited him along for a guest mix and a chat.

What is your background and how did you get into music?
I started at a very young age to get introduced to the club culture, which I found very appealing. I continued to discover the world of electronic music, until the day I bought my first DJ set at the age of 15. After a short time I was playing in different clubs in my city. I was also lucky enough to be friends with the ”who for me was the best resident DJ in my city”. That’s when it all started…

Where are you based and how has your home country or town influenced your music & career?
My hometown is Cadiz, a city with a lot of history within the geography, but with little electronic music.
This factor I think doesn’t help much, but I think you have to work a lot in the studio to be able to advance.

How would you describe your sound – do you think your music falls into a particular genre?
I identify my music as independent music, I try to work and get a personal sound, it’s not always possible LOL. If I had to identify my music in some genre I would include it in Down tempo / electronica – Deep House.

You are making your debut on Constant Circles with your track “ Chamango”. How did you approach this project and how did the idea come together?
I’m very happy to be able to work with this Label.
The story of this track is quite curious, I left the conservatory where I study piano, on my way home I was humming this melody, I decided to capture it freely, I wanted to do something different.

What is your production process – is each project different? And what are your key pieces of studio kit?
When working in the studio I like a lot of freedom, depending on the day I feel like one thing or another. Every project is different, but always within my tastes. Always with the same intention.
One of my key pieces is a Yamaha workstation that I buy at a second-hand market at a laughable price. I combine it with my Model D three oscillators. I always prefer analog.

You are also a co-owner of the label Annuna Music. Tell us about the label, where did the concept come from and do you have a music policy?
This label was created with my friend Jesus, a person whom I admire very much and who is like my brother.
We always go hand in hand in the label, besides we have partners who also contribute their grain of sand like Rayko and Paula. It has always been a dream for us, to be able to have an independent label, without following any fashion…

Can you tell us something people won’t know about you?
I love the beach, the animals, and las papas aliña.

What do you have coming up in terms of releases and gigs?
This year I have a joint release with EdOne on MoBlack including remixes of Rancido. I also have other releases on Annuna Music, Akbal, Solar distance (Uner remix). As for dates I have to confirm.
