“We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise if we have waited in the darkness”

bio picIn a short space of time, UK producer and label owner Revell has curated some incredible underground music onto his fledgling imprint Clouds Above, including tracks from the likes of Ryan Davis, Balcazar & Sordo, Ashley Wild and Jade. We caught up with him ahead of his guest slot on the radio show to find out more about the concept of the label and his plans for the future.

Hello! So you are the boss of the up and coming label Clouds Above.. tell us how that came about?

Yes, so having been in the music industry for some time now under a different alias in a duo and having always had a passion for music since an early age I decided to finally start up on my own, and with this I also made the decision to set up my own label. I suppose I just wanted to give artists that were very talented a chance to shine, knowing how difficult it sometimes is to get heard, especially trying to get labels take notice of your music & love it as much as you do.

What is the concept of the label? Does it have a music policy?

Well my concept is to try and find undiscovered talent and unleash them & their music to the world. Because of this it also gives me the opportunity to work with people that I have always had huge admiration for which is a massive perk of having your own label! Luckily enough this has been happening from day one and just to have these people listen and support the labels music is amazing. The sound so far is very deep and melodic, but if people listen to all the previous releases they are all slightly different. Good music to me, is good music as far as I’m concerned so I don’t really like to stick a label on it, haha.

Would you say it is difficult to set up a record label? What advice would you give to other aspiring label owners?

The best advice I can give would be stick to what you believe in and don’t stop working until you achieve what you first set out to achieve.

You are also an artist in your own right – which is more important, the label or your own music, or do they go hand in hand?

Most definitely go hand in hand! To be honest I was putting so much time into the label that I actually wasn’t producing much of my own music but that was my choice to make. My priority was to ensure the label had the best start possible, it’s just about finding the right balance now.

What are your goals for the label and yourself?

My goals are to keep pushing the label as hard as possible and to keep discovering amazing artists and music. I also want to get my own music production back to where it needs to be. The next big thing in the pipeline is to start hosting label Showcases again, hopefully beginning later this year.

What releases do you have coming up in the near future on the label and also for yourself as an artist?

In my mix on the radio show is the labels next release from Dilate label owner Evans which features two great remixes from Echonomist and Natural flow, I’m really excited about this one! The labels last EP was actually by me with remixes from Ryan Davis and Dead-Tones, which was huge! I also have a few things lined up but can’t really say much yet so watch this space 🙂

Tell us about your guest mix on CC radio – how did you put it together and what is included in there? any exclusives or surprises?

Well I always try to have fun with my mixes, I don’t often do many as I always prefer to play out in a club and vibe off the crowd. With this one I’ve kept a bit of a summer feel to it and featured label releases on there as well as a couple of tracks which are exclusives and haven’t been heard anyway yet, so I hope you all enjoy.
