Barcelona based producer Agatha Pher makes her debut on the label with a stunning deep techno rework of Giorgia Angiuli’s ‘Deep Moan’. We invited her along for a guest slot on the radio show and for a chat about her music and her home town of Barcelona.
What is your background and how did you get into music?
All my life I have been very closely related to music. My father was a percussionist, my mother a guitarist, and so at home music was listened to 24 hours a day. About 10 years ago, for Christmas, they bought me a midi controller, and 10 years later that machine that was unrecognisable to me at the start has brought me to where I am today.
You are based in Barcelona – have you always lived there? And how has your home country or town influenced your music & career?
Yes, I have always lived in Barcelona. I have experimented living in other places but only for short periods of time. I love my city, I’m really thankful because the promoters and clubs gave me my first opportunities as a DJ and because of that I was able to reach the public, who are now the reason for my smile. I love playing in Barcelona.
What is the most important thing for people to see when visiting Barcelona?
More than any monument, I would certainly advise you to go to Barceloneta, the coastal neighbourhood of Barcelona, where I grew up, go to one of its mythical bars, sit on one of its terraces and have a good vermouth.
What is your production process and what are your key pieces of studio kit?
The keyboard of Komplete Kontrol, for me is a fundamental tool to be able to develop all the melodic and harmonic parts of my projects.
How would you describe your sound – do you think your music falls into a particular genre?
A while ago I would have said yes, Techno. Now my evolution has expanded towards other genres and to let this flow according to the moment, the place, the people .. In the end, everything moves by energy, no?
You recently remixed Giorgia Angiuli on Constant Circles – how did you approach the remix and what direction did you take it?
I reached Constant Circles through my management company Pobla. Just Her became interested in my work as a producer. I am really excited, Constant Circles is a label that I admire and often follow, I play a lot of music from it. She gave me the opportunity to choose a track to remix and among them was Deep Moan by Giorgia Anguili, an artist for whom I have a lot of admiration. I loved the track. I wanted to respect the original and just sample something very subtle from it.
What is your biggest inspiration, in music and in life?
My family without a doubt. Through the circumstances of life, my greatest family figures are no longer here with me, but they are, as I tell you, in my music… in all the things that surround me in the day to day. They are the inspiration for everything I do.
Tell us your deepest darkest secret?
I’m younger, I’m 17 years old, hehehe! I think it’s not a very hidden secret, but I love beer very much.
What do you have coming up in terms of releases and gigs?
This year is set to be amazing for the development of my international career. This weekend I will be playing in Chile, I will be doing a Tour through Mexico, Argentina and Acabare in Colombia, besides getting a few days back in Barcelona to dedicate to the Studio. I have more dates throughout the year and releases scheduled on labels like Constant Circles, Seven Villas Music, Audiofile Deep or Feinkost Records.
How did you put together your guest mix for the radio show & what have you included – any exclusives or surprises?
I included music from Lee Burrige’s label “All day I Dream” I love his sound, but especially I think I should highlight the Remix of PinkFloyd that I added almost at the end of the set, it’s called: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Billka Edit).
